Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Reads So Far

toptentuesday2It’s been quite a while since I’ve jumped on board with a “Top Ten Tuesday” meme. These are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and they always have great topics.  This week’s topic is “favorites of the year so far.”  I thought it would be a good moment to stop and take stock of what has been on the Reader's Block review block so far this year.

I've read a lot of mysteries (no surprise there) and science fiction this year. And, just glancing through the list, it looks like my favorites are breaking down between those two categories.  Let's see what we get:

Science Fiction:
Angels & Spaceships by Fredric Brown
Triumph by Philip Wylie
Mind Fields: The Art of Jacek Yerka/The Fiction of Harlan Ellison by Yerka & Ellison
Other Times, Other Worlds by John D. MacDonald

Mystery:
India Black & the Gentleman Thief by Carol K. Carr
The Mammoth Book of the Lost Chronicles of Sherlock Holmes by Denis O. Smith
Where There's Love, There's Hate by Adolfo Bioy Casares & Silvina Ocamp
Gambit by Rex Stout

Other
Beyond Uhura: Star Trek & Other Memories by Nichelle Nichols  (autobiography)
Sinners & the Sea by Rebecca Kanner (fiction)
